A busy day in Mumbai... and missing a flight

Hello dear fans (lol),
It was a crazily hectic day in Mumbai, where we did everything we hadn't planned on doing and missed the one thing we had planned, our flight to Goa. It was incredibly easy to rebook though!
Our lovely driver Devanand Nair - DN from now on, picked us up bright and early at the ITC. Making our way down to South Mumbai in the not-so-crazy-yet traffic, we made several unplanned, but very pleasant stops.

First off was taking a look at where a lot of the laundry in Mumbai is done - including hospital scrubs. Apparently these people work 363 days a year! Somehow they manage to get the clothes to the right person all the time. Women are not allowed to work there. DN pays only ~200 rupees (4 dollars) to get his laundry done for the month. Sure beats the 1.80 a shirt we pay at Hollyway Cleaners!

Next stop was the Gandhi house in Old Mumbai - where we got to learn about his amazing journey, learned a lot of facts (He studied law in London!) They recreated his typical quarters along his journey. They also had amazing dioramas with different stages of his life. His letter to Hitler was quite striking and Einstein's letter praising Gandhi was awe inspiring.

Next off was a Jain temple, where we saw very devout pilgrims lighting incense to the gods. Men had blindfolds over their eyes as they paid homage; women were making beautiful figures made out of grains of rice, including swastikas. The greatest piece of wisdom we took from this temple was the quote below: "The love of money is the root of all evil"

Our next stop in our journey was the Hanging Gardens! (Yes, we are crazy, no wonder we missed our flight...) We walked around for a few minutes as Ian tried to tame butterflies... the heat is clearly getting to him. We were the only visitors, and it was a nice break from the craziness. Apparently all the water for Mumbai is stored under the gardens (source: DN). Then we crossed the street to a walkway, where someone tried selling us the Kama Sutra and Ian had a really hard time shaking off a vendor trying to sell us peacock fans (2 dollars, "the Indian AC"). Below... bliss!

Below is Ian (my love and life partner)... ever so handsome posing with Mumbai in the background.

As our battery is about to die... we will post the rest of the day later on.... including seeing Minu, the Gate of India, the Taj, and buying a suit. Ta ta!
Ian and Feli
